When I was little, I loved stories about knights rescuing the princess. Maybe it was tackling a fire breathing dragon, or maybe it was stopping a cruel, evil knight inflicting harm on others. No matter, there was something that hit home in my heart about why we're here.
My friend's brother was permanently injured in combat. His selfless patriotism was incredible. His injury changed the entire rest of his life, and I remember the respect I felt for his selfless courage in the face of danger, to honor his sworn duty.
There's a line in Prince Valiant that says: "You are brave, kind, honorable, and loyal. What more could a king ever want?" Those are timeless qualities we treasure in those protecting others, behaving with respect, and always being there when needed.
I encourage us all to dig deep to be honorable, kind, and brave, especially at this time when others need to lean on us. Many are weary, tired, and feeling defeated. Although Prince Valiant was a story, good character can truly be part of each of our stories....and won't that make for a better kingdom in which to live!
